STORY BEHIND B’ALAM:
B’ALAM stands for a vibrant mix of modernity and tradition, 100% handmade by Women in Guatemala.
Weaving has played an essential role in the preservation of Guatemala’s cultural pride. Regarded as one of the highest forms of Art, it has enabled the indigenous communities to save their traditions from extinction through colonialism and various internal power struggles. As each pattern has a distinct symbolic meaning, the garment turns into a unique and powerful aesthetic statement.
Depending on the complexity of the design, a garment can take several months to weave.
