STORY BEHIND THE BANTENAN WEAVE:
The art of weaving Ikat was first created in the village of Bentenan, situated by the beach, in South East Minahasa. This type of ikat was only found in the Ratahan area before it disappeared and hence gets it name as Bentenan Ikat Weave. In its time, this Bentenan Ikat had was valued highly by people. Decades later, this style of weaving ikat was reinvented and the tradition still lives on till this day.
The fabric has been specially hand-drawn and irregularities are a natural characteristic of this fabric
