With today’s rising numbers of mass produced clothing, the number of Sumbanese weavers has been drastically decreasing. The geometrical motif consisting of lines and shapes is a heritage of pattern known to the Sumba culture, and interpreted by the weaver.

The fabric has been specially hand-made and irregularities are a natural characteristic of this fabric.
